Since moving from the content department to design, I’ve been tasked with maintaining balance among the various outfittings available for your ship or avatar.
When I set out to write this piece, I wanted a real tale of piracy, filled with bloodthirsty scoundrels, scantily clad wenches, and a bit of sea dog humor. It would describe the life of a Pirate on the Burning Seas, from the moment you first set foot on a ship to the moment that final cannonball sends you home.
In part 1 of this devlog dedicated to the revamp of France’s regional capital, Pointe-á-Pitre, we looked at the development of the new city and some (if not all) of the inspiration for some of the features, places, and characters you’ll meet there. This time out, we’ll be looking at specific storylines, locations, and NPCs that will make “Point with Clown” an entertaining and rewarding destination for players of every nation.
Player versus Player conflict is one of the cornerstones of Pirates of the Burning Sea, and the primary avenue for that is our Conquest system. Were in the process of making some fairly major changes to the Conquest system. We wanted to take a moment and explain those changes, and the reasoning behind them. There are a handful of major areas I want to address: port defense, increased PvP zones, and PvP rewards.
One of the things we’re most proud of in Pirates of the Burning Sea is our ship to ship PvP. We feel that we have created a deep, enjoyable system for player versus player combat, with interesting and complex battle possibilities.
The UI strike team I told y’all about in my last devlog is nearing the end of their first month together. We’ve been really busy and have lots of fancy new stuff to show off in the 1.2 patch you’ll be downloading soon.
Bey’s Retreat is the unapproachable stronghold to which the Corsairs of the Main escape when the national navies and Brethren pirates chase them down. It is a series of powerful fortresses built into a small island near Caracas, watched over by the most ruthless and dangerous Corsairs in the Caribbean.
While I knew that we’d be facing trouble from goldfarmers and goldselling spammers from the moment we launched, some part of me was still surprised at the volume and aggressiveness of the spammers. Our GM staff is keeping up with them, but every minute they spend dealing with spammers is a minute longer someone with a legitimate problem is waiting in the queue.
We batched up some particularly large bug fixes, such as those for music and art, into this patch. This download will be bigger than previous patches but we’re hoping you’ll agree that it’s worth it, with all the bug fixes we’ve included.
With Pirates of the Burning Sea released, I finally get to tell everyone about the innovate approach Flying Lab Software took to the crafting system and the crafter as a gaming preference.
